Does anyone have a recipe for the old fashion, firm, Hungarian Sourdough Rye Bread? Just like grandma used to make. You know the kind. Solid bread that can take a ton of grease drippings as you make Szalonna.(Greasy Bread)

Don't have a recipe, but Chamberlain bakery still makes hungarian rye and they are still in business.  You can also order on-line.

It is very difficult to find the kind of bread we grew up with in Delray. I used to work at Delray Bakery with Attilla Cziraky and John Bresznai. They clain the recipe is the same and it may be but the ingredients are a much cheaper quality. There are some good Jewish Bakeries and the bread is very similar to the half rye bread they used to make.
